I pull the engine chord, the paramotor lurches me forward. Within seconds, I'm airborne above Mount Megiddo—the biblical Hill of Armageddon—coordinating a three-camera film crew, filming our adventure travel TV show "Guy in the Sky" whilst performing aerial maneuvers over 2,000-year-old ruins in some of the world's most restricted airspace.
Four years earlier, I couldn't even get a paraglider off the ground.
The transformation didn't happen overnight. It happened through a methodical approach to skill development that applies to everything from leadership to entrepreneurship—and understanding it could save your career (or in my case, stop be falling out of the sky). A bit of grit and resilience was needed also.
The Most Dangerous Phase of Learning
My flight instructor, Alex Ledger, shared something that stuck with me:

Flying over ancient Caesarea while coordinating camera crews required technical precision, risk assessment, and split-second decision-making. But I could only perform at that level because every component had been rehearsed hundreds of times in safe environments.

After 1,000+ flights, I can now coordinate complex aerial cinematography while navigating restricted airspace and managing ground crews via radio—in multiple languages. But it started with learning to inflate a wing on flat ground.
