US Army at Fort Shafter: a keynote on grit and leadership

By Paris Norriss··Event recap
US Army keynote at Fort Shafter

The event

In 2025, Paris Norriss delivered his keynote address to the US Army at Fort Shafter, Pearl Harbor, in Hawaii. He shared the news on LinkedIn in September 2025.

“Speaking at this historic location, steeped in such profound military heritage, was truly a privilege,” Paris wrote. He said he was incredibly humbled and grateful for the opportunity to share his insights.

What Paris spoke about

The keynote focused on grit, resilience and leadership, the themes at the heart of The Grit Code. For a military audience, these are not abstract ideas. They are daily requirements.

Hawaii has a special place in Paris’s story. It is where the 4,800km row across the Pacific Ocean ended in 2023, and where he went on to live for three months.

Highlights

  • Keynote address to the US Army at Fort Shafter, Pearl Harbor.
  • Themes: grit, resilience and leadership.
  • A historic setting with deep military heritage.

About The Grit Code keynote

The Grit Code is built on real stories from extreme environments. Paris rowed 4,800km across the Pacific Ocean in 2023 with the Brothers N Oars crew, a row that raised more than £150,000 for marine conservation. He also ran seven marathons on seven continents in 5 days, 21 hours and 51 minutes, in Antarctica, Cape Town, Perth, Dubai, Madrid, Fortaleza and Miami.

From those experiences he draws practical lessons on purpose, vision, limiting beliefs, adapting a plan and keeping a clear head under pressure. He has delivered the keynote for audiences including the UN Tourism General Assembly, TEDx Amman, COP28, Expo 2020, DHL, Nokia, Kraft Heinz, IHG, Dubai Airports, Durlston Partners in London and Surfbreak in Honolulu. Every talk starts with a briefing call, so the stories connect to your theme, your industry and the challenges your people are facing right now.

“Incredibly humbled to have delivered my keynote address to the US Army at Fort Shafter, Pearl Harbor.”
