Kanpur’s economy and who the talk is for

Kanpur grew as a Ganga-plain trading and manufacturing centre, and much of its character still comes from making things. Leather and footwear remain closely identified with the city. Textile and hosiery units continue alongside chemicals and other process industries. Historic ordnance and defence-related manufacturing added another industrial layer, which means many local leadership rooms are used to talking about safety, shifts, quality and export compliance rather than software sprints.
